Bardstown Bound May 15

Spring is in full force and Summer is just around the corner. What better way to celebrate the new season than with a PARTY!!! Haiti

There are a few times in your life when you see something so incredible both good and bad that words don't quite say enough. A friend of mine decided after much prayer and reflection to leave the comforts of suburbia and frienships to follow a calling that lead him and his family to one of the most devasted parts of the world, Haiti. Their homebase is in the Dominican Republic, opposite side of the same island, working with locals through EdgeOutreach to provide clean water through a sophisticated yet small filtration system (check out EdgeOutreach.com to see more of their work). Clean water is such a basic ingredient to us in the modern world, but scarce to a lot of people, as I have found out, in places like Haiti and Dominican Republic. Now what little clean water there was in Haiti has all but been eliminated. EdgeOutreach is setting up several small water purifier systems that can serve 10,000 people a day. This is huge to people who have literally nothing. I cannot write enough what life saving work these volunteers and many more are doing in the name that is above all others. Fair Trade Festival at Rainbow Blossom

Rainbow Blossom (on Lexington Rd.) is hosting an event Saturday, May 9th, to bring to light the need for fair trade and we are glad to be a small part of this festival. Fair Trade is a simple concept of providing reasonable wages to growers and trade's people for their goods and services. Some local businesses that support the initiatives of fair trade will be represented. Heine Bros., Rainbow Blossom, Coco's Chocolate Café and several others will have booths to showcase some of the things we make using fair trade items. Come out and I'm sure you'll see why it's better to buy local.

DerbyTime

Derby is finally here! The weather is always a joker when it comes to getting out and watching the races. The horses and mint juleps are what people crave this time of year. Fine chocolate is also popular not just in winter but all year. At Coco's, we have everything from our Drinking Chocolate to Ice Creams. Back this year, Vanilla Affogatos (chilled espresso served with our homemade vanilla ice cream topped with fresh whipped cream and chocolate shakes). This is served in a martini glass to accommodate a rather large drink/dessert. Enjoy the Derby and stop by afterwards for something cool and chocolatey while you're here.

Peppermint Dream

Peppermint Dream is a mint infused center with a dark and white shell. The inspiration was from last year when we had a classic snowfall day and somebody suggested I should have peppermint with my chocolates. Most places I visit have peppermint bark or some sort, which has many variations. I wanted something unique with a familiar taste. So, this year I've combined peppermint with a nice white chocolate and added a dark covering...it's a great blend of opposite chocolate flavors. This is one of our favorite holiday treats!
